Cross-country skiing

Santa Caterina offers a good variety of cross-country tracks in a fairytale landscape.

The track Valtellina winds along deep forests and a high plain at an altitude of 1800 meters and is characterized by tracks of 5 and 10 km and up and down slopes between 190 and 390 m. The track also features ingenious and revolutionary technical solutions including, in particular, a challenging downhill which is very appreciated by the more experienced skiers.

In the past the track Valtellina hosted important international competitions and many events related to the World Cup.

The tourist track is partly coincident with the racing track and is 2, 3 and 5 km long.

Both the racing and the tourist track are subjected to constant maintenance and were realized under the supervision of Benito Moriconi, coach of the Italian national team and of the Olympic champion Manuela Di Centa.

The high altitude and the location of Santa Caterina Valfurva guarantee perfect snow conditions on all tracks.

The La Fonte centre, located at the beginning of the Valtellina track, is run by the Cross-Country Ski School teachers. Here changing roomsshowers, a room for waxing skis  and  a room for storing equipment ensure everything a cross country skier needs is provided.
